1    1. Timing and online tracking website

The timing system will be using RFID chips this year. A pair of chips will be affixed to the back of each bib to keep track of participants’ progress on the trail as well as to ensure their safety. Timing device will be installed at the start point, all nine checkpoints, one control point, and at the finish point. To ensure the timing chips can be detected by the device accurately and efficiently, participants are required to display their bibs visibly on the front of their shirts at all times during the event.

When entering a checkpoint, the four members must pass through the timing device for recording the check-in time. Members should also report to the “Check-in & Information” Tent together for the officials to verify the walkers’ bibs, bracelets and record the check-in time as well. The Organiser will use the check-in time recorded in the timing device as the final check-in time of the team.

The online tracking website will be opened to public on 13 November. The link will be announced on the Oxfam Trailwalker website. Please refer to the “What’s New” session for details. https://www.oxfamtrailwalker.org.hk/en/whats-new-list

           2. Traffic arrangements during the event

The popular supporting areas will be very crowded during the event, so we strongly urge support teams to avoid driving to checkpoints. Instead, support teams are highly encouraged to make use of public transport and Oxfam’s shuttle bus service. Please take a look at the information regarding the traffic arrangement during the event below and share it with your support teams!

i) Start Point (Pak Tam Chung)

Pak Tam Chung Public Carpark will be temporarily suspended starting from 12:01am on 15 November and no parking space will be offered to the public. Participants and the support teams please make use of public transport to the start point.

ii) Checkpoint 2 (Pak Tam Au)

CP2 is located in an AFCD restricted area; all vehicles without a Country Park Permit cannot access it. Traffic control will be enforced so parking is also NOT allowed around the CP even for vehicles that have a Country Park Permit. Support teams are strongly advised to take the public transport.

iii) Checkpoint 3 (Kei Ling Ha)

Parking and loading / unloading is NOT allowed around the entrance of CP3. Shui Long Wo carpark (next to CP3) will also be temporarily suspended from 10:00pm on 14 November to 8:00am on 16 November. Vehicles are prohibited from waiting or parking there; vehicles will only be able to drop off passengers or unload goods there.

To avoid affecting the vehicle access of nearby villages, parking is strictly prohibited in the area between Sai Sha Road and Yung Shue O Road. In addition, Chuk Yeung Road (between Shan Liu and Wong Chuk Yeung) will be temporarily closed from 1:00pm on 15 November to 7:00am on 16 November. All vehicles cannot access it.

iv) Checkpoint 4 (Gilwell Campsite) and Shatin Pass Road

Please note that as the way to Gilwell Campsite is very narrow, traffic control will be implemented during the event. Hence, supporting teams are strictly prohibited from driving to the above section. We will provide free shuttle bus service for the participants who completed the 40th Anniversary Edition event to the MTR Diamond Hill Station.

Shatin Pass Road is a popular place for support teams to provide materials and encouragement to teams during the event. However, this has created heavy traffic in the area and parking problems, which has affected walkers and could prevent medical staff from accessing the area should an emergency arise.

As such, traffic will be controlled near MacLehose Trail Distance Post M101, and the section of Shatin Pass Road between Lion’s Pavilion and Kwun Ping Road from 9:00am on 15 November to 4:00pm on 16 November. Parking will also be strictly forbidden during this period; passengers and goods will only be allowed to be dropped off or picked up in a designated zone. Support teams are strongly advised NOT to drive to the aforementioned area.

v) Checkpoint 6 (Smugglers Ridge Rifle Range)

Golden Hill Road will be temporarily closed from 1:00pm on 15 November to 9:00pm on 16 November during the event. Please note that unauthorised vehicles including mountain bikes (except the Organiser’s vehicles), will not be allowed to enter. Support teams are strongly advised to take public transport to CP6 instead of driving.

Public transport to CP6:

Bus No. 72 / 81 – Get off at Shek Lei Pui Reservoir on Tai Po Road

vi) Checkpoint 8 (Tai Mo Shan)

All parking spaces (including metered parking spaces and other parking spaces) in the carpark adjacent to Rotary Park, Tai Mo Shan Road will be temporarily suspended from 12:00nn on 14 November to 3:00pm on 17 November.

The section of Tai Mo Shan Road east of its junction with Route Twisk will be temporarily closed from 4:00pm on 15 November to 3:00pm on 17 November during the event. Please note that unauthorised vehicles including mountain bikes (except the Organiser’s vehicles), will not be allowed to enter. Support teams are strongly advised to take public transport to CP8 instead of driving.

Public transport to CP8:

Bus No. 51 – Get off at Tai Mo Shan Country Park on Route Twisk

vii) Finish Point (Harrow International School Hong Kong)

Please note that NO parking spaces will be offered to teams at the Finish Point. As the Public parking spaces near that area are also limited, we strongly encourage everyone to use public transport or the shuttle bus service provided by us to travel to the Finish Point.
