Oxfam Trailwalker 2019 Open Team Application starts today (7 May)

Last year, more than 4,900 Oxfam Trailwalkers helped raise more than HK$32 million to support Oxfam’s development projects, emergency relief programmes and advocacy work around the world. Thank you for your invaluable contribution!

 

This year’s Oxfam Trailwalker will be held on 15 – 17 November, 2019 (Friday – Sunday). The trail starts at Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung and finishes at Chu Hai College of Higher Education in Tuen Mun (NEW!). Oxfam will accept 540 teams for the Open Team Category. Start times and quotas are as follows:

*How to qualify as Elite Teams: After being allocated a team slot via one of the below channels, teams can then apply to join as Elite Teams which are to start at 8am on 15 November.  To apply, teams should have at least three members who have finished the Oxfam Trailwalker within 24 hours at least ONCE in the past three years (i.e. 2016, 2017 and 2018).

 

Team Category Qualifications
Special Team Teams need to have raised HK$36,000 or more in Oxfam Trailwalker 2018. (these Teams will start at either 9:30am OR 11am).
Pledge Team Any team that pledged HK$72,000 or more to Oxfam Trailwalker 2019 can apply for this category.

Supporting Organisation Team

Teams from sponsoring companies and supporting organisations.
Open Team Teams will be picked at random. Teams allocated a slot will have to register. (for details, please refer to website)
Infinity Walker (NEW!) The first 100 teams who have installed the Infinity Walker app and completed the designated missions successfully (details to be announced later).

 

Note: An Oxfam Super Trailwalker Certificate will be awarded to teams when all four members complete the entire route within 18 hours regardless of team category.

 

Open Team Applications will be accepted from 10:00am on 7 May to 6:00pm on 23 May (Hong Kong time). Please note that the system might be overloaded and may be slower during this period. Please be patient and try again later or contact us for assistance. Please also note that the system will time out every 30 minutes. To avoid disruption and unnecessary delay, please prepare all required information (i.e. team leader / team members’ personal details and credit card details) before applying online.

 

Applicants can apply online* and pay the application fee (HK$120) by credit card or Union Pay. Application forms can be downloaded here collected or at Oxfam Hong Kong’s office beginning 7 May.

 

Entry Requirements

  1. Participants must form teams of four persons aged 18 or above (on or before 16 November).
  2. All registered teams must raise a minimum of HK$7,600 in sponsorship (except for Pledge Teams, which must raise a minimum of HK$72,000). Donations must be paid to Oxfam Hong Kong no later than 17 December, 2019. Teams that successfully raise HK$36,000 or above for Oxfam Trailwalker 2019 will be listed as Special Teams and will have priority registering for Oxfam Trailwalker 2020.
  3. Team members who fail to comply with the above regulations will not be permitted to participate in future Oxfam Trailwalker events.

 

New Finish Point and Route of Oxfam Trailwalker 2019

The 100 km trail covers Sections 1 to 9 of the MacLehose Trail (about 87 km). Before passing distance post M175, it leaves the MacLehose Trail and follows the Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail all the way to Tai Tong Barbecue Site. The route then turns left onto the Tai Lam Forest Track and makes its way back to the MacLehose Trail, where it runs from distance post M178 to M193. It then finally passes through Tsing Ying Road and ends at Chu Hai College of Higher Education in Tuen Mun.
